Behavioral Analysis-Based Organizational Development – BAOU/OBM

Behavioral Analysis-Based Organizational Development – BAOU/OBM

Behavioral Analysis-Based Organizational Development (BAOU), known internationally as Organizational Behavior Management (OBM), provides you with the knowledge and practical tools to understand and influence behavior within organizations.

OBM is based on behavioral analysis and offers a scientific and systematic approach to organizational development, leadership, and change. You will learn to analyze what actually influences people’s behavior at work, identify the behaviors that are critical to achieving desired results, and create the conditions for long-term, sustainable change.

The training program combines Rolf Olofsson’s many years of work establishing a rigorous behavioral analysis foundation for OBM in Sweden with Behaviour Design Group’s extensive experience in practical implementation in both small businesses and large, complex organizations.

Throughout the program, theory is combined with practical training, realistic scenarios, and the participants’ own case studies. The focus is on developing the ability to apply behavioral analysis knowledge to concrete organizational development and to create sustainable behavioral changes that lead to measurable improvements in organizational performance and the work environment.

Four courses, from the basics to certification.

The program consists of four courses in Stockholm: A, B, C, and D. The courses build on one another progressively and are taken in alphabetical order.

You register for one course at a time, and there is no requirement to complete the entire program.

Course A, Fundamentals of BAOU/OBM

Course A provides an introduction to the BAOU/OBM approach and the key behavioral analysis concepts used to understand performance and behavior in organizational contexts.

You will practice analyzing behaviors functionally, distinguishing between outcomes and behaviors, and identifying which factors in the work environment influence how people actually act. Theory is combined with practical exercises and examples from real-world organizational situations.

The goal is that, after completing the course, you will be able to begin applying behavioral analysis principles to understand specific challenges in areas such as leadership, collaboration, performance, and change.

Course B: Implementing Behavior-Based Change

Course B focuses on the core elements of the improvement process and on how behavior analysis is used to plan, implement, and follow up on change in organizations.

You will practice identifying and specifying critical behaviors, analyzing the antecedents and consequences that influence them, and selecting relevant methods for measuring behaviors and outcomes.

The course also covers how feedback, reinforcement, and other change strategies can be used to increase the likelihood of desired behaviors over time. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of leadership and on how managers can develop their ability to clarify expectations, provide effective feedback, and follow up on performance.

Course C, Application and Organizational Development

Course C provides an in-depth look at how BAOU/OBM is used in practice in organizational development and change management.

The focus is on realistic case studies and practical exercises in which participants work through the entire process: from defining desired business outcomes and critical behaviors to analyzing barriers and drivers, designing interventions, and tracking actual change.

You’ll practice developing change plans that work in real organizations and managing common implementation challenges, such as unclear goals, competing priorities, a lack of feedback, and weak buy-in from the line organization.

An important component is developing your own structure and methodology so you can independently apply BAOU/OBM in practice.

Course D, Personal Development and Supervision

Course D involves participants carrying out their own consulting or change management project using BAOU/OBM as the methodological foundation.

The work is conducted within a real-world organization and under supervision. Participants have the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained from the program in practice: analyzing the current situation, identifying critical behaviors, planning and implementing interventions, and following up to determine whether the change actually leads to the desired effect.

Throughout the course, participants’ assignments are discussed with a focus on method selection, implementation, measurement, obstacles, and results. The work concludes with reporting and reflection on the change process that was carried out.
